Mrs. du Toit
From: Mrs. du Toit Weblog First and foremost I’m a plain ol’ Mom. I’m a middle-aged wife and mother. I’m not an authority on any particular thing, but I have opinions on quite a number of subjects. I’m an atheist. I homeschool my kids. My husband and I own a consulting company. I work. I’m happily married. I cook and sew. I’m a Christmas junkie. I’m the resident geek/web and network manager. I was raised in Southern California. I’m the baby of my family. I have two sisters. My brother passed away in 1995 of HIV related causes. My parents divorced when I was three. I went to school in the San Fernando Valley, West Los Angeles, and Hollywood. I came from a geek family and grew up around computing centers, where my family worked as computer operators and programmers. I took to working with computers and designing computer training. I spent the first 20 years of my life working in the entertainment industry--first as a child actress and later a talent agent and personal manager. At 22, I was director of Hollywood’s oldest talent agency. I won’t tell you who my agency clients were--I’ve long since lost contact with all of them, and you wouldn’t believe me if I told you. After three years of being an agent I threw away my beeper and ran away from home. I took a job with the Episcopal Church and started accidentally, what would become, a long and happy career as a corporate trainer and instructional designer. I refer to myself as a republican (small R) and am often accused of being a libertarian (which I’m not). I’d call myself a conservative, but conservatives don’t want me as a member of their group. If you are a liberal you’ll think I’m a raving, loony conservative and a member of the vast, right-wing conspiracy. If you are a conservative, you’ll think I’m a pinko-liberal. My (second) husband, Mr. Kim du Toit, has a website of his own. I’m one of those really lucky women who is married to the man of her dreams and has great kids. We live someplace in the United States, currently in the Dallas/Fort Worth area, and move all too frequently.
