You have the gift of putting hard to express thoughts into eloquent words.

It’s not just children who have trouble with intangible, abstract concepts. . .
As an aside, the reason that God has been depicted as an old man is not to keep women in line, but to show young men that the virtues of compassion and generosity and nurturing are masculine virtues and not just feminine ones. This can’t be done in polytheistic societies or in societies where God is an abstraction with no humanizing attributes.
I think the societies that have or had the masculine god-figure were kinder and have done more to reduce human suffering than societies with female gods.Windy Wilson | 11/10/2007 01:41 PM CDT -
Bravo!
Well said, but I fear it will bring out the loonies.

Santa is/was real. Saint Nicholas is the only “catholic” saint appreciated- if not venerated- by most protestant sects. He’s not around any more, but that’s even more reason to appreciate the spirit he brought to giving.
This is the speech I will be giving my daughter about a week from now. As it was given to me.

I think the Christian response to “It is my belief that much of Christianity is fiction” is “more room in heaven for me!”
